The most common T-shirt printing methods
How to choose screen printing, sublimation, DTF or heat transfer film according to the fabric, artwork and quantity.
Screen printing
Artwork is applied through a printing mesh. Separate colours usually require separate preparation. For repeated designs, compare setup costs, the number of colours and the print quantity.
Sublimation
Ink transfers with heat to suitable polyester fabric. White or light coloured shirts are generally preferred. Ordinary cotton or dark shirts are not automatically suitable: check the material first.
DTF — direct-to-film printing
Colour artwork is printed on a special film and transferred to fabric using an adhesive layer and heat. It can be used on cotton, polyester and blends. Compatibility should be checked on the actual shirt.
Heat transfer film and flock
Cut film suits names, numbers and simple designs. Flock creates a soft, suede-like surface. Complex colour artwork needs a suitable printable transfer material or another method.
Choosing a method and caring for the print
Consider fabric composition, colour, image size and position, quantity and the desired surface feel. Follow the garment label and the specific print instructions. Wash inside out and avoid ironing directly over the image. Temperature and drying depend on the material.
What to share for a quote
Send the quantity, size breakdown, shirt colour and composition, artwork, print dimensions and positions, and required date. Explain whether you supply the shirts or need them included in the quote. Price, method and timing are confirmed after review.
